Performance & Features

The MBM-530NS is a compact all-in-one single board computer. Based on the National Semiconductor low-voltage GX-1 chipset, it offers an unique combination of features and performance. Operating at 300MHz, the MBM-530NS’s performance is true Pentium-class and its MMX support further enhance its multimedia performance. Because of its low-voltage design, the MBM-530NS allows the system designer to design a fan-less low-profile system for wide varieties of applications and environments. A low-profile SODIMM memory socket is provided to support high-performance PC/100 SDRAM systems memory up to 128MB.

Unlike other embedded SBC, MBM-530NS’s diminutive size does not mean short on the features. For video graphics, a built-in PCI graphic accelerator is standard supporting both CRT and active TFT LCD displays. For server and networking professionals, a 10/100Mbps fast Ethernet LAN controller is provided. For multimedia applications, the PCI audio features Line-in/Line-out/MIC-in connectors. The MBM-530NS provides complete set of I/O ports including RS-232/485 serial ports (2), TTL IO ports (2), USB ports (2), and a parallel port. An IDE and FDD connectors are also provided for convenient connections to storage devices.

If all these on-board features are still not enough, the MBM-530NS also has a PCI slot and a PC/104 expansion socket for add-on modules. The board provides full support for Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000 and Linux operating systems.

Design Philosophy & Applications

The MBM-530NS was developed after extensive market research and customer feedback. For years, if an embedded application requires a low-cost full-function SBC, the customer is usually stuck with 386 & 486-based solution. While these solutions offer good economy, they really struggle when using in combination with more updated operating system, such as Microsoft Windows. The MBM-530NS incorporates Pentium-class performance and multimedia features into an affordable compact off-the-shelf package, which Formosa believes is what many embedded users have been looking for.

Pricing and Availability

The suggested retail single piece price for MBM-530NS starts at $330. Formosa offers special discount programs to resellers and quantity users. The MBM-530NS is available starting July 1, 2001.
