Chatsworth, CA, June 22, 2001 – Formosa today announces its first all-in-one motherboard based on the standard Flex ATX form factor, the FLEX-600.

Performance

The FLEX-600 is a high performance all-in-one compact motherboard. Based on the latest SiS 630S Socket 370 chipset, the FLEX-600 offers PentiumÒ III-level performance by supporting Intel Socket 370 PentiumÒ III or CeleronÒ processor up to and beyond 1GHz by utilizing its 66/100/133MHz front-side-bus (FSB).

Two 168-pin DIMM socket is provided for PC/100 or PC/133 SDRAM memory up to 1GB. For video graphics, a built-in AGP-4X 2D/3D LCD/CRT graphic accelerator is standard for full 32-bit true color rendering at resolution up to 1920x1200. A 10/100Mbps fast Ethernet LAN controller with RJ-45 connector is provided for networking. The PCI audio features 32-voice wavetable synthesis with 3D positional sound effect and Line-in/Line-out/MIC-in connectors. The board provides full support for Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000 and Linux operating systems. To ensure that all these performance gears function reliably, the FLEX-600 incorporates the latest in hardware thermal & voltage monitoring and management.

Peripheral Connections

One of the most unique features on the FLEX-600 is its peripheral connection capabilities. The FLEX-600 boosts one of the most complete set of I/O ports in the industry, including dual UDMA-33/66/100 IDE ports, a FDD port, quad RS-232 serial ports, dual parallel ports, quad USB ports, a keyboard port, and a mouse port. In addition, the COM4 serial port features integrated DC +5/12V power output for peripherals that demand higher power requirement. An on-board PCI slot provides additional expansion capability when needed, and Formosa offers a variety of PCI riser cards to ease system design, integration, and packaging.

Design Philosophy & Applications

The FLEX-600 is based on the industry standard Flex-ATX form factor. This compact form factor was originally developed by major PC manufacturers targeted at the fast-growing low-cost, compact desktop computer market sector. Formosa utilizes this concept and then incorporates additional features required by the industrial and commercial users. However, unlike typical motherboards, the FLEX-600, as with all Formosa offerings, comes with a 3-year minimum availability guaranty, which allows system integrators to stay with the same design for a long period of time. Sample applications include point-of-sales (POS), industrial controllers, testing instruments, kiosks, 1U/2U rackmount PC, embedded systems, … etc.

Pricing and Availability

The suggested retail single piece price for FLEX-600 starts at US$350. Formosa offers special discount program to resellers and quantity users. This product is available starting July 1^st, 2001.
