Evolution and Culture
Before 1984 Formosa Industrial
Computing, Inc., was the former Micro Computer Engineering Department of First International Computer, Inc. (known as FIC).
Formosa specialized in microcomputer technology and mostly worked on automatic engineering
projects at that time. Due to the autonomous nature of its business, it spun off as an
independent company (yet remaining an affiliate of FIC) near the end of 1984. At the
beginning, Formosa had only 12 employees with a capital of 200,000 US dollars. At present,
it has more than 200 employees with annual revenue of more than 35 million dollars. Its
practical and realistic working style has resulted in steady growth since its genesis.
Developments
During its early stages, Formosa
concentrated its main business on factory automation and system integration. In the scope
of this business Formosa was able to provide a range of complete services from engineer
planning, software design, installation and testing to construction and maintenance. To
aggrandize its business, in 1992 Formosa began R&D, manufacturing and marketing of
various computer and communication products. The hands-on experience in factory automation
that it had gained for several years and its success in developing many advanced Display
System projects have enabled Formosa to successfully develop and manufacture a series of
industrial computers as well as LED display products. In order to conform to the trends it
has also entered into the domain of Multimedia and Communications.
Achievements
Formosa believes that quality
control and R&D are the key to the success of a product. In June 1997 it won the
ISO-9002 Quality Assurance Certificate. Given its remarkable R&D results and
outstanding management, in 1998 Formosa won the contract to implement the complete
Internet/intranet Telecommunications Server (CI2TS) plan, sponsored by the
government. Formosa has continually completed on schedule many sophisticated projects,
both commissioned by outside organizations or initiated on its own. Most academic and
R&D organizations nationwide have highly appraised Formosa for its R&D
capabilities. Though a high-tech company, Formosa also works to provide appropriate
training sessions in intellectual and physical well-being for its employees to meet each
individual's professional or even moral goals, in the hope that his or her career plan
will run in parallel with the company's future growth. Formosa does not discriminate
against handicapped employees; the number of handicapped employees at Formosa has already
exceeded the criteria set by the government.
Ideals
Formosa's ideals, to which their
employees give full recognition, are (1) constantly striving to become stronger, (2) being
sincere and active and (3) sound management at all times. Formosa's office philosophy is
Quietness, Strength and Cleanliness.
Philosophy
Based on the broad interpretation
of Formosa's "sound management at all times" ideal, its staff participates in a
sapling event every March. This is an event in which every Formosa employee actively seeks
and takes ownership of a young sapling, growing professionally and emotionally in tandem
with the young tree. Formosa employees also participate in as many charity-related events
as possible. Formosa managers strive to set good role models via physical and intellectual
exercise.
Belief
After years of hard work and
dedication in running its business, Formosa today is a major presence in three major
business fields: Industrial Automation, LED Display Systems and Multimedia and
Communications. It has received full recognition in its products as well as its services.
Like a young bird, Formosa is just spreading its wings and is "Ready But Not Flying
High Yet!" We have the confidence and competence to fly higher and farther.
